The Brainasium™ is an immersive, interactive learning experience designed to bring the science of early brain development to life. Through engaging, hands-on activities and guided reflection, participants explore how relationships, environments, and early experiences shape the architecture of a child’s developing brain. The Brainasium translates complex neuroscience into practical understanding, helping parents, educators, healthcare professionals, and community leaders recognize how everyday interactions can either strengthen or disrupt healthy development.
Participants move through experiential stations that demonstrate how factors such as nurturing relationships, language exposure, stress, safety, nutrition, and play influence brain growth during the earliest years of life.
By “seeing and feeling” how neural connections are formed, strengthened, or weakened, participants gain a deeper appreciation for the critical importance of early childhood environments and responsive caregiving.
The Brainasium™ is more than a learning activity—it is a call to action. By equipping individuals and communities with knowledge and practical strategies, the experience empowers participants to create safe, stable, and nurturing environments where children can thrive, families can flourish, and communities can grow stronger for generations to come.

Zone Safety America is a youth-led community safety and prevention initiative founded in 2001 by participants in First TEAM America’s STEM Program (The CHEM LABS of America). The initiative was born from the voices and lived experiences of more than 50 youth, ages 9–18, from The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta who were determined to confront the violence and trauma affecting their communities.
Many of these young people had firsthand exposure to tragic and preventable events. Some had been victims of gun violence, while others had witnessed stabbings, house fires, sexual assault, domestic violence, or serious accidents. Several had lost friends and neighbors to fires, traffic incidents, or other devastating circumstances. Rather than remain silent, these youth transformed their pain into purpose—committing themselves to creating safer environments for children, families, and neighborhoods.
With courage and determination, the youth organized and presented a community safety action plan to the late Atlanta City Councilman Ivory Young during a district Town Hall meeting. Their powerful testimony ignited a movement. In response, a coalition of public agencies and community partners quickly rallied around the youth to help bring their vision for safer communities to life.
Early partners included the Atlanta Police Department, Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, Atlanta Public Schools, Atlanta Workforce Development, Grady Health System, the Fulton County Juvenile Court, Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, Safe Kids America, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and the Fulton County Board of Health. Together, these agencies worked alongside youth leaders to implement prevention education, leadership development, and community safety programs.

Families and communities empowered with the knowledge, skills, and resources to co-create sustainable pathways toward holistic wellness and thriving futures.
To eliminate inequities, eradicate disparities, and dismantle injustices affecting families and communities through authentic community engagement, participatory research, intentional advocacy, facilitation, and transformative training.
In 2014, Natasha Worthy and Danette McLaurin Glass, while attending a federal conference in Washington, DC asked themselves, "Why are our families and communities still suffering? Why is there so much pain in families? What are the contributing factors to the despair, hopelessness and anguish that plague Black families and communities?"
As the climate for Blacks in America intensified with violence, blatant discrimination, chronic health disparities and overt injustices, the informal conversations among family, friends and colleagues became more intentional.
In 2017, after a tremendous "cry in the community" as a result of several events that rocked our nation to its core, the conversations escalated to a "Call to Action." On July 3, 2017, we met with Dr. Camara Jones, Past National President of the American Public Health Association, author, sought after speaker and distinguished professor. After presenting a blueprint of our framework for The Center For Family and Community Wellness (CFCW/The Well), we received further confirmation validating our core belief:
Wellness: Is Relevant and Necessary. “Well Individuals” develop “Well Families” and contribute to “Well Communities” (C)
From July 2017 through November 2018, Danette McLaurin Glass and her mother, Mrs. Bettye McConnaughey McLaurin began traveling the southeastern United States (AL, DC, FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA) conducting interviews and focus groups with hundreds of individuals representing all aspects of American society. In November, 2018 eighteen months after developing the framework CFCW/The Well was formed. On January 20, 2019, the Center's officers were installed in a ceremony at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center in Atlanta, GA. The Advisory Council was also instated at that time.
In the years since the Center's 2019 inauguration, CFCW has provided innumerous opportunities for community engagement, research, advocacy, facilitation and training to address the root causes of the disparities and inequities that impact individuals, families and community wellness. Several innovative initiatives have been developed and sponsored with strategies to reduce disparities, promote wellness, and to enhance quality of life.
The Center for Family and Community Wellness' primary objectives are to empower families and communities with knowledge and tools to strengthen autonomy and self-sufficiency; to increase advocacy skills in health, justice, education, and labor environments; and to inform and influence policy for effective prevention and intervention practices for healthy individuals, families and communities.
Our desire for every individual, family and community...
... to grow and flourish for optimal wellness.
